Each new year brings with it a new hope, a new gift, a new life and new opportunities to either start afresh or continue from where you stop.
However, it's safe to say that year 2020 was by far the toughest year we've had.
Lives were lost, careers crashed, businesses tumbled, and many more unpleasant events were experienced - courtesy to the novel virus, COVID-19
This, in a way has left many wondering, what next?
In that respect, if you're looking for ways to elevate your new year, here are five important habits you must embrace in 2021.

EMBRACE CHANGE
One of man's most difficult challenges is the ability to let go of what he's accustomed to - which in most cases, is his past.
John D. Rockefeller says, "Don’t be afraid to give up the good to go for the great".
In order to have a better future sometimes, it's expedient to focus more on what'll work and not just what we know or are familiar with, especially if what we know isn't helping anymore.
Whether we want it or not, new year always comes with new challenges, new surprises, new opportunities and many more unpredictable events. Isn't that what happened in 2020 with the pandemic?
That said, you've got to be ready to combat whatever life throws at you. That's the only way you will scale through.

EMBRACE GROWTH
While it isnt easy, growth is inevitable. You've probably heard the popular quote that says, If you're not growing you're dying.
To grow is to try new things, to take risks, to make mistakes, to fail. What you must not forget to do however, is to learn. Until you learn from your mistakes, you're not growing. You're simply failing.
Life will throw rocks at you, instead of feeling rejected, build a castle with it. Life Is too short to remain in one place. You've got to keep moving ahead. You've got to step out of your comfort zone into something more challenging. While there's no guarantee that it will work out, you're guaranteed to learn from it. And that my dear, is the way to grow.

EMBRACE HAPPINESS
The only person that can make you happy is you. Not your friend, not your spouse, not your parents, or any other person you can think of. No one has the power to determine your happiness except the one you give to them.
The true way to embracing happiness is to never allow circumstances to define your mood, or how you feel.
Resolve in advance that no matter what happens to you, you and you alone decide how it makes you feel. Now, that's real happiness.

EMBRACE LOVE
Love makes the world go round...but only when embraced. Maybe you have been hurt many times before and have sworn never to give someone a chance at love again.
While it's totally normal to feel that way, it's not the best decision to make. We all need someone to love and someone to love us.
So, this year, choose to forgive and let go completely of that bitterness and aches you keep in your heart. They do more harm than good.
If you make yourself available for love, and put yourself out there, love will find you again.
Most importantly, to receive you have to give. If you want love, be ready to give love in return.
However, this isn't the same as going out to look for or chase after love. Often times, love finds you when you aren't looking and when you least expect it, as long as you make yourself available for it.

EMBRACE YOURSELF
Last but not the least, you need to love and embrace you. If you do not accept yourself for who you are, you won't accept growth, happiness, changes, or love.
Embracing yourself means knowing who you are, accepting it and loving it wholeheartedly. You're not perfect, no one is. But if you don't accept your imperfections and flaws, the world will use it to their advantage to knock you down. But that won't happen once you've embraced and loved your imperfections.
Look at yourself in the mirror, smile and say,"I accept you, I embrace you and I love you...now and forever".

Admittedly, these habits will not be cultivated overnight. Like any other habits, of course, with consistency and efforts, though they may take time, will eventually become a part of you that you'll genuinely be proud of.
Here's to wishing you a Happy New Year 2021!
