5 AMAZING PERKS OF BEING A WOMAN

In the history of humanity, there has never been a time when the world didn’t owe women something. Biology makes it such that women are more likely to be vulnerable, at least once in their lifetimes. And for a few decades now, with the third wave feminism finally taking a firm hold and women becoming even more vocal about their needs, wants, and just about everything else, it is safe to say that the world is about to experience some significant changes in the dynamics of being a woman. Having proven over and over again to themselves and to the male gender that they can indeed make things change when they really set their minds to it, the story of womanhood is slowly but steadily shifting from a place of perpetual victimhood, and to a place of decisiveness and strength.

Today, lets take a break from the sad reality of gender based violence, emotional abortion, financial, emotional and psychological abuse, and unequal pay. Lets take a moment to celebrate the milestones that we have achieved, the mountains we have climbed as a collective and the fact that the population of women who literally have no choice but to live under sexist, oppressive and abusive systems are reducing as more girls get education, financial freedom and a generally better access to opportunities. With more of world organizations, NGOS and even government establishment actually dedicating their activities to the relief of women, we are seeing better access to help, health, education, and support. And be it as it may, lets take a moment to celebrate the glory of our little and bigger wins as listed below.

1. The suffrages movement : There used to be a time when women could literally not choose their leaders, had no say in politics and couldn’t hold office. Today, due to the sacrifice and determination of a group pf women who went all out for the future generation, us... we now choose our leaders and even participate legally and freely in all levels of government in many countries. Even though several countries still practice repressive culture towards women’s activities in politics, we are not where we were a hundred years ago, and even if it does take a hundred years into the future for the rest of the world to do the right thing, women know now that it can and HAS been done.

2. The amazing girl brain: The idea of a different female brain has formed the basis for the mass commitment of women to asylums, usually for reasons as flimsy as being disobedient to their husbands. In fact, women who walked with too high a shoulder, or too red a hair and too green a pair of eyes could be lynched, burnt at stakes and buried alive. The truth is that the woman brain is definitely not exactly the same with the man’s, but it is for the better... not worse. In reality, women have been known to be exceptionally high on the emotional intelligence scale, an attribute that the world needs more than ever as it continues to embrace and discover the millions of differences in life, sexuality, gender, politics, and religion.

3. Multitasking: Many people believe that women somehow have the multitasking gene written somewhere in our DNAs. What we really have however is social conditioning that puts the bulk of child raising, care, and domestic chores on our supposedly weaker shoulders. What we call the multi tasking gene is really just us adapting to an otherwise extremely stressful situation

4. Money management: Maybe its just my bias talking. But does it ever feel like women know just how to manage their money better, make it last for longer, Make better, albeit slower financial decisions? Somehow, we manage to have less debt (statistically speaking) and higher credit scores. Yay!

5. Social responsibility: It seems like women hold each other more accountable than men generally do. What this translates to is that women generally make better leaders. Call it jealousy, hate, or even outright envy... but women are more likely to call each other out than men are. Even when the situation does not affect the call out group directly, accountability seems to be the thing that is written in our DNA.
